Abu Dhabi is taking another important step toward Value-Based Healthcare.
In June, the Department of Health Abu Dhabi issued a circular launching the first phase of PROMs implementation across applicable healthcare facilities, initially covering Pregnancy & Childbirth, Stroke, and Hip & Knee Procedures.
We are proud that Capadev has been selected as the DoH partner for this implementation and to provide the national platform, while also working directly with leading hospital groups on the collection, analysis and reporting of PROMs and clinical outcomes (CROMs).
Why does this matter?
Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) capture outcomes directly from patients including pain, physical function, mental wellbeing and quality of life. Used properly, they are not simply questionnaires. They become clinical information that can help care teams monitor patients, guide treatment decisions and understand whether care is actually improving patients’ health.
The real value comes when PROMs are combined with clinical outcomes and case-mix variables, giving clinicians and healthcare organizations a much more complete picture of outcomes and enabling meaningful, risk-adjusted benchmarking.
The measures being implemented are based on standards developed by the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement (ICHOM), helping providers use internationally standardized outcomes and learn from comparable data across organizations and countries.
This is also increasingly relevant to how hospital excellence is assessed internationally: PROMs implementation is now an explicit component of the Newsweek/Statista World's Best Hospitals methodology, with ICHOM serving as a knowledge partner.
Capadev is a long-standing ICHOM Implementation Partner and global Accreditation Partner, supporting healthcare organizations from implementation of ICHOM Standard Sets through to effective use of outcomes data and accreditation readiness.
For healthcare providers in the UAE, the opportunity is bigger than regulatory compliance: it is about turning PROMs and CROMs into better clinical decisions, better patient outcomes, meaningful benchmarking, and ultimately stronger clinical and organizational performance.
If your organization is implementing these standards, we would be happy to share what effective implementation looks like in practice.
